The Louisiana School Board Association awarded the Lafourche Parish School Board a $17,000 Schools Putting Prevention to Work Grant, which will be utilized to target the prevalence of tobacco use and obesity.

LPSB will hire a contract service to analyze the recipes cafeteria workers use when making food from scratch in order to provide a label of nutritional facts, which will also be posted on the Lafourche Parish School Board Child Nutrition website.

A monthly newsletter, billboard and public service announcements will also be purchased with the grant funds to increase tobacco and obesity awareness.

Six students from Lafourche high schools will attend the Youth Tobacco Summit. The attendees will take part in various workshops and activities geared towards fighting tobacco.

LPSB will host the Lafourche Schools Putting Prevention to Work Kick Off on Dec. 11 at Peltier Park, which will feature a one-mile fun run and a tobacco and nutrition information booth.
