A routine traffic stop in Thibodaux for illegal window tinting and no license plate light early Saturday turned up over 100 grams of marijuana, authorities said.

Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Sgt. Richard Reidel, a member of the agency’s Problem Oriented Patrol (POP) Squad, stopped Tyrone Quincy Wilson, 22, of 203 Oakshire Drive, Houma, on Ridgefield Road after he noticed his vehicle’s window tint was too dark.

When Wilson got out of the vehicle, Reidel spotted marijuana on the man’s shirt. A strong odor of marijuana was also coming from inside the car, authorities said. A background check revealed that Wilson’s driver’s license had been suspended and that the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.

K-9 Officer Lance Simoneaux and Deputy William Powell found a couple of marijuana “roaches” – marijuana cigarette butts – in the ash tray and an ice chest on the back seat that contained over 100 grams of marijuana. A digital scale was found under the front seat, deputies said.

A passenger in the car, Gregory Glover, had two empty beer bottles near his feet. After Wilson confessed that the marijuana was his, Glover was issued a citation for an open container violation and underage possession of an alcoholic beverage.

Wilson was booked at the Lafourche Parish Detention Center with possession with intent to distribute Schedule I narcotics; possession of drug paraphernalia; license plate light required; open alcoholic beverage in vehicle; driver’s license suspended; illegal tinting of a window; and as a fugitive.

District Judge Jerome Barbara set his bond at $25,000.

Lafourche Parish authorities said Wilson’s extensive criminal history includes a second-degree murder charge in Terrebonne Parish.
