Photo buffs interested in entering the Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium in Cocodrie’s 2008 Photography Contest have one more day to enter.

The deadline to submit photos for the “Boats of Louisiana” is Jan. 31, 2008.

The top photographs will be exhibited at LUMCON’s annual Open House Gala Event on April 26, 2008.

According to LUMCON spokeswoman Trudy Hebert, photos depicting the various styles of Louisiana boats on the region’s waterways are eligible.

In addition to the open house display, winning photographs will appear in LUMCON publications and on the organization’s Web site.

Hebert said original color or black and white prints or digital images can be submitted. Printed photographs must be between 4-by-6 inches and 8-by-10 inches in diameter. The resolution of digital shots must be at least 300 dpi, and submissions should be forwarded in a.tiff format.

Previously published photographs are not eligible for the LUMCON contest. Contestants must also own all rights to the works submitted.

Only entries postmarked no later than Jan. 31, 2008, will be considered in the judging. Hebert said late or incomplete entries will not be considered.

No entries will be returned or confirmed by LUMCON.

The categories for judging are: kids (ages 12 and under), teens (ages 13 to 18); adults (age 18 and over); and LUMCON employees. Contestants may enter up to five photographs per person.

The judging will take place April 1 and winners will be announced at the open house event.

Entry forms are available at the LUMCON Web site.

Include one form per entry and mail to: LUMCON c/o LUMCON News, 8124 Hwy. 56 Chauvin La. 70344. Online submissions may be sent to lumconnews@lumcon.edu.
