NAME: Lauren Bordelon

AGE: 31

TOWN: Thibodaux

FAMILY: My husband is Michael and my son is Luke. Together, we have a dog named Doris and a cat named Franz.

PROFESSION: Librarian

HOBBIES: Reading, knitting, cooking new recipes, hiking and gardening. My husband and I are also avid cyclists, and now Luke joins us in his carrier. When the weather permits, we ride our bikes every day.

WHAT IS A TALENT THAT YOU HAVE THAT FEW PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT?

I make a gumbo that is so good, my husband says that it is better than his mother’s. Maybe that talent should stay hidden.

IF YOU HAD TO SPEND A YEAR ON A DESERTED ISLAND, WHAT ITEM WOULD YOU TAKE ALONG?

My ENO hammock! Do you know how much sleep I could get in that one year?

YOU’RE A MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR LOTTO WINNER. WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO?

Work part-time. I love being a librarian, but who doesn’t enjoy time off to travel or maybe just get the laundry done?

WHO IS YOUR ROLE MODEL? WHY?

Is it possible to have more than one? I personally think so. From my mother and grandmothers’ examples they set forth for me, to those who have guided me through the many aspects of professional librarianship, I can honestly say there are many, many people I look up to. Even my husband and son who remind me daily to have fun and that life is too short to worry about the small stuff, especially when they are tracking mud through our house.

IF YOU WERE A SUPERHERO, WHO WOULD YOU BE AND WHAT WOULD YOUR SUPERPOWER BE?

Library Girl! I have the power to put things into alphabetical order faster than you can say alphabetical order!

FIVE PEOPLE – PAST, PRESENT OR FUTURE – YOU’D INVITE TO DINNER?

John Besh; Bill and Melinda Gates; Pope John Paul II; Lindy Boggs.

TV GUILTY PLEASURE?

Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood.

PROUDEST MOMENT?

Our son’s first birthday was a pretty proud moment for me. Luke was born while we lived out of state, and Michael and I welcomed him into the world and into our home without the help of family (they eventually arrived a few weeks after his birth). For the most part, that first year was one of successes, failures, discoveries and just so much love. Our family grew bigger, closer, and quite frankly, smarter. The night of his first birthday party, after all our guests left and we put Luke to sleep, Michael and I celebrated with a well-deserved beer and leftover cake.

BEST ADVICE YOU’VE EVER BEEN GIVEN?

“Go gray.” Honestly, this was the best advice I’ve ever received. About three years ago I stopped dying my hair for good, and I love my natural gray and the confidence it gave me to just be myself.

WHAT’S ON YOUR NIGHTSTAND?

My Kindle, spare glasses, and probably one of my son’s toy airplanes. How do those things end up all over the place? Also, “This is the Turkey” by Abby Levine, our favorite bedtime book right now.

HOW DO YOUR FRIENDS DESCRIBE YOU?

I’ve been described as a human encyclopedia. I reign supreme at trivia/logic games and have a wide knowledge of lots of different things. So does that make me a know it all?
