There is another vacancy in human resources in the Lafourche Parish Administration Building in Mathews.
Having worked just two weeks, Parish Human Resources Director Stacey Nichols resigned at the end of last week, citing that she felt her, “skills, experience, education, and values are not a good fit at this time for the position.”
Nichols’ resignation follows roughly two weeks after Parish Administrative Director Timothy Vedros and Parish Human Resources Director Emily Knight, both resigned within days of each other last week.
Vedros resigned on June 4, saying that his duties were in direct conflict with his duties as a Deacon in the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux.
Knight resigned on June 6, with no public explanation.
In a letter written to Cantrelle, Nichols said that she sincerely appreciated the opportunity to serve the parish on a part-time, temporary basis.
“I have met many wonderful supervisors and employees in the past two weeks, and I have very much enjoyed getting to know them and learning about their needs,” Nichols wrote. “Most people here just want to do the right thing and are just looking for guidance and resources which is what I enjoy most about the human resource profession. Unfortunately, I do not feel that my skills, experience, education and values are a good fit for the position at this time. I am resigning from my position.”
Meanwhile, the parish council is asking for a legal opinion from Lafourche District Attorney Kristine Russell, on whether the council’s former Legislative Auditor should resign instead of taking a leave of absence from his job.
The request, motioned by Councilman Daniel Lorraine, comes in the wake of Reggie Bagala, the council’s legislative auditor, taking an indefinite leave of absence earlier this month to campaign full time for State Representative for District 54.
“I have nothing against Reggie,” Lorraine said. “But what if he loses. Is it fair for him to be able to come back and get his job. Would that be fair to anyone interested in the job, or frankly, to any candidate who wants to campaign, and he or she might feel they have to take a leave of absence from their job because of any possible conflict of interest?”
Lorraine said he will support whatever conclusion Russell comes up with.
“Maybe he should resign? It should be up to the district attorney to decide,” Lorraine said.
