Nicholls State University has an impressive feather in its cap.

The local 4-year university was ranked as the No. 37 Top Public School and the 95th Best Regional University in the South, according to a report by the prestigious U.S. News and World Report.

The report says Nicholls serves its community well and prepares graduates for the jobs in our area.

“At Nicholls State University, we have been enthusiastically filling the needs of the Bayou Region for 70 years, and we take pride knowing that our graduates are ready for whatever the world throws at them,” said Dr. Sue Westbrook, provost and vice president for academic affairs. “It’s exciting to see that U.S. News & World Report has recognized our efforts and has named us one of the best colleges in the South.”

Schools rankings are determined by graduation rates, retention rates, financial resources, graduation rate performance and alumni giving rate, among other factors.

Once the date is collected and analyzed, each school is broken up into national universities and regional universities and the top 75 percent in each are published.
