The Southland Conference announced Thursday the football schedule for the 2024 season, with the Nicholls State University Colonels set to begin its title defense on Sept. 28 at home against Texas A&M-Commerce.

After going 7-0 in league play this season with four road wins, Nicholls will welcome four Southland foes to Manning Field at John L. Guidry Stadium for the ’24 campaign. Along with the Lions of A&M-Commerce, the Colonels host McNeese (Oct. 26) and Northwestern State (Nov. 9) before closing out the regular season against Southeastern (Nov. 21) in the River Bell Classic.

All three road games will be in Texas, starting with a trip to UIW (Oct. 12) for the second straight season. In November, the Colonels will take on HCU (Nov. 2) and Lamar (Nov. 16).

Nicholls is coming off its third SLC title in the last six years and fourth playoff appearance under Tim Rebowe. The Colonels had a league-high 16 All-Southland selections with 11 set to return for the ’24 season. Headlining the returnees are Southland Player of the Year Jaylon Spears and Freshman of the Year Rasheed Lovelace, and a total of five first-team selections.

The full 12-game schedule will be announced at a later date.
