Shell Oil will invest $50,000 in Nicholls State University coastal research projects, including the production of native plants for coastal restoration through the Louisiana Native Plant Initiative.

Joint volunteer events headed by Shell volunteer employees and the university have produced and planted thousands of native vegetation in coastal Louisiana.

“Shell’s Deepwater Operations is a proud supporter of Nicholls’ efforts,” Deepwater Executive Vice President for Shell John Hollowell said. “Our employees have volunteered at the Nicholls Farm for the past three years.”

“We will use Shell’s investment to support community outreach, student education, research and production of native plants at the Nicholls Farm for use in marsh, beach and dune restoration projects,” associate professor of biological sciences Sr. Allyse Ferrara said. “Nicholls values this corporate/academic partnership and recognizes its importance for coastal Louisiana habitats.”
