Ochsner St. Anne General Hospital is hosting a dance Saturday to benefit cancer research.

Velvet Sky will perform at the event, slated for 8 p.m. to midnight at the Gheens Community Center, located at La. 654 in Lockport.

Admission is $20 per person. The hospital hopes to raise $10,000 for the American Cancer Society.

“Ochsner St. Anne is taking a grass-roots approach in the fight against cancer,” says Mae Hitt, Ochsner St. Anne’s Diabetes and Community educator. “What better way to fight cancer than through a united approach and a local dance to pull folks from all walks of life together for a good cause.”

Hitt is the chairwoman of the North Lafourche Relay for Life 2008.

All proceeds from the dance will be given to the American Cancer Society at the Relay for Life April 4. The local event will be held April 4, from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., at Nicholls State University’s Stadium in Thibodaux.

“For the past two years, Ochsner St. Anne has been the number one fundraiser and we’re hoping for a three-peat,” challenges Hitt. Relay’s 2008 theme is Celebrate, Remember, and Fight Back.

Currently, the hospital offers cancer services once a week, but according to Milton Bourgeois, CEO of Ochsner St. Anne General Hospital, “in 2008 we will add chemotherapy services to our newly- opened infusion center further expanding the medical services close to our patient’s homes.”

The infusion center enables patients who need single or routine injections to receive care close to home.

Therapies available at the center include administering of IV fluids, blood and blood product transfusions, antibiotics, Remicade, Dobutamine, and non-routine injections.

The center is located on the hospital’s fourth floor and is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

Tickets to Saturday’s dance are available at the door or by calling (985) 537-8530.
