No arrests have been made in last week’s shooting death of Victoria Brown, 23, of Thibodaux. Thibodaux Police’s Detective Division is in charge of the investigation.

The mother of two was found dead in her two-story apartment building behind Burger King last Monday at approximately 12:30 p.m. shortly after police had responded to an apparent suicide on 101 Belmont Drive in Thibodaux.

Thibodaux police were called to 207 East Second St. in response to an aggravated battery disturbance involving a shooting. When they arrived officers found Brown’s body on the bedroom floor. She was the only person in the home when police arrived.

Thibodaux Police spokesman Lt. Sam Pruitt said Brown suffered from what police believed was a gunshot wound to the upper body. But last Tuesday, the Jefferson Parish Coroner’s Office said that Brown’s cause of death was an apparent gunshot wound to the head. A toxicology report is pending.

Police recovered a semi-automatic handgun in the bedroom a foot away from the body. Ownership of the gun has not been determined, according to Pruitt.

The incident has been ruled a homicide by police until further information proves otherwise.

“We always call (shootings) a homicide until the evidence leads us in another direction,” Pruitt said.

Brown’s boyfriend, Bertrand Greene, of Thibodaux, was at the scene and questioned shortly after police arrived but was not arrested in connection with Brown’s death.

“We have questioned several people in the matter but no arrests have been made,” Pruitt said.

The spokesman said there is no record of either the Greene or Brown having a previous domestic violence disputes.
