A Raceland man was arrested by the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office last Tuesday for simply robbery, simple battery and theft.

Keith Toups, 36, was arrested after a string of robberies at three separate Terrebonne Parish convenience stores. While Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office handled the second and third robberies, Houma Police Department handled the first robbery.

After receiving similar descriptions of the suspect, detectives obtained video surveillance from the stores and identified him as Toups.

Toups was found in Lafourche Parish and transported to TPSO headquarters where he admitted to all incidents, reports say.

“This guy was arrested before,” said Jerry Larpenter, Terrebonne Parish Sheriff. “He’s got a lengthy rap sheet for armed robbery, simple burglary, simple battery—things like that. He’s been arrested before in Terrebonne Parish.”

At 4:48 a.m. Tuesday morning, TPSO received 9-1-1 call from a Jubilee convenience store at Bayou Blue Road and Hwy. 182, in Houma. A female victim reported that a white male approached her, grabbed money from her and bit her hand as she was exiting the store.

Toups left in a truck, and TPSO received a similar 9-1-1 call at 5:54 a.m., this time from a female employee at the Jubilee Casino at Prospect Boulevard and Coteau Road. According to the phone call, Toups stole the employee’s wallet off the store counter and fled the scene in a truck.

He was arrested and booked at the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex where he is awaiting a bond hearing.

According to the police report, Toups had outstanding warrants for failure to appear for armed robbery, simple burglary, simple battery and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
