A Lafourche jury convicted a Raceland man Thursday of attempted armed robbery of a Market Street resident, according to District Attorney Camille Morvant II.

Kyron Folse, 19, was accused of attempting to rob Vontrell Duncan at gunpoint on June 2, 2015, as Duncan returned to his home that evening, according to the DA. Jassumen Price was also charged in the robbery attempt.

The victim’s mother interrupted the robbery attempt, which left Folse and Price empty-handed. Both fled the scene, firing two or three shots as they ran, according to witnesses.

“We are very fortunate that no one was injured during this robbery attempt,” Morvant said. “This conviction means that a dangerous individual will be facing significant jail time and we are certainly happy with that result.”

Folse and Price wore masks during the robbery attempt, but the victim was able to identify them. In addition to the victim’s testimony, a neighbor also told jurors that he observed the two individuals walking up and down the street before the robbery attempt, apparently waiting for the victim to return home.

“It took a lot of courage for the victim to come in and face one of the men who pointed a gun in his face,” said Assistant District Attorney Rene’ Gautreaux, who prosecuted the case. “I want to commend him for the part he’s playing in making Lafourche safer.”

Formal sentencing is set for April 20 before District Judge Christopher Boudreaux, who presided over the trial. Folse faces a maximum sentence of 48 years in prison.

Price, who was also charged with the same offense, is scheduled for trial on April 11. •
