Over the weekend, The Times reported that computer models indicated a slight chance of snow late Tuesday and into Wednesday morning.

That possibility still exists – albeit the chances are growing smaller in recent model runs.

But the chances of bitter Arctic cold is near certain – almost 100 percent.

On Monday, temperatures were warm – in the upper 50s with sunny skies.

But in the next 18 hours, that pattern is going to change, as an Arctic front surges into Louisiana, which will cause temperatures to plummet.

According to the National Weather Service, the low temperatures tomorrow night will be 22 degrees in Cut Off and 21 degrees in Houma.

The forecast says there’s a 20 percent chance of precipitation, which FOX 8 Chief Meteorologist David Bernard said may be in the form of wintry mix or snow flurries.

Other places in Louisiana are expected to get far more.

Forecasts call for up to an inch of snow from Morgan City and further westward and from Central Louisiana northward to the Arkansas border.

Schools will be open in both Lafourche and Terrebonne tomorrow, as the worst of the cold is not expected until long after sunset.

No decision has been made for Wednesday.

The blast of cold is expected to last for 36-48 hours.

Another freeze is expected for Wednesday night before temperatures drastically warm into the upper 40s on Thursday, the 50s on Friday and the 60s on Saturday.
