A Houma teen was stabbed with a knife by his mother after he pushed her during an argument, a Houma Police spokesman said.

Lt. Todd Duplantis said officers were called to 8971 Norman St. after the caller reported trouble with a juvenile. Debra Ann Nixon, 39, told police the argument began when she told her 14-year-old son to stop playing video games and help with some house chores, the spokesman said. The boy had been suspended from school, and had spent the day playing games, the woman reportedly told police.

As the argument escalated, Nixon armed herself with a knife and stabbed the teen in the shoulder after he pushed her, Duplantis said. He said the teen had a 2.5-inch cut on his shoulder, and Nixon’s 17-year-old son also had a stab wound on his wrist. Duplantis said the older teen refused to provide police with information about the incident.

Both teens refused medical treatment, Duplantis said, and the cuts appeared to be only superficial.

Nixon was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated battery. She remains in Terrebonne Parish Jail awaiting trial or bond, he said.

Nixon’s 14-year-old son was also arrested and charged with simple battery. Duplantis said he was taken to the Juvenile Detention Center.

If convicted of aggravated battery with a dangerous weapon, Nixon could face up to 10 years in prison and a $5,000 fine, the police spokesman said.
