(AP) Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre nabbed one of three teenagers accused of dropping rocks from a train trestle and striking at least three cars – including Webre’s, the sheriff’s office said.

Webre was heading home last Wednesday night and passing under the trestle when his car was damaged by paint ball pellets and rocks, the department said in a news release.

The windshield of his police cruiser shattered, covering him with small pieces of glass. He slowed down but kept driving until he could safely turnaround in a driveway. Meanwhile, he told dispatchers what was happening, the release said.

Webre drove onto a private road near the railroad trestle, got out of his car with a gun and flashlight and hid until he heard the voices of three people drawing near.

“When the lead individual came down the embankment, Webre sprang forward, identifying himself as a police officer and physically took the suspect to the ground. The two others ran off into a wooded area,” the news release said.

Webre called police headquarters on his cell phone and was soon aided by a detective. The 15-year-old arrested by Webre identified two other suspects, the news release said.

Both were taken into custody.

Webre went to Thibodaux Regional Health Center emergency room where he was released after treatment for a scratch to the surface of his eye, the sheriff’s office said. At least two other cars were reported damaged at the train trestle.
