The people of south Lafourche Parish are super proud to call LSU head football coach Ed Orgeron one of their own.

They’re so proud that they’re going to name a day in his honor while holding a party to show pride in their native son, the new Tigers’ coach.

Businessmen in Lafourche Parish announced this week that Feb. 17 will be known as “Coach O” Day in Lafourche Parish – a day designated to show recognition to the Larose native and longtime football coach, who was hired by LSU in November to guide the Tigers into the future.

A party will be held to honor Orgeron at 6 p.m. at the Larose Civic Center, and Orgeron is expected to attend the event.

Organizers said the nightcap of the ceremony will see South Lafourche High School retire Orgeron’s jersey – joining Bobby Hebert and Ronnie Estay as the only players to be honored by the storied high school.

Local football guru Mike Detillier will serve as the mater of ceremonies at the event.
