Days before the school year began, the Terrebonne Parish School Board filled several administrative vacancies at local schools.

Sandra Sevin was hired as Pointe-aux-Chenes Elementary’s new principal.

The school board had six assistant principal slots to fill: Gregory Cook, H.L. Bourgeois High; May Belle Trahan, Elysian Fields; Darrel Dillard, Evergreen Junior High; Elizabeth Lirette, Grand Caillou Elementary and Clyde Hamner, Village East schools.

Martin also presented the board with a list of retirees that have a total of 155 years of service to the Terrebonne school system.

The school board granted retirement to Melissa Dardar, a teacher at Ellender Memorial High for 25 years; Clair Giordano, teacher at Caldwell Middle for 16 years; Mary Hebert, custodian at Dularge Elementary for 36 years; Eunice Ruffin, paraprofessional at Greenwood Elementary for 10 years; Brenda Scott, paraprofessional at Schriever Elementary for 34 years and Agnes Verret, paraprofessional at Grand Caillou Elementary for 34 years.

The school board will also continue to provide meals for local Head Start programs in Terrebonne.

Board member Gregory Harding, chairman of the Building, Food Service and Transportation Committee, said the agreement with the Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government is to provide services to those local Head Start facilities that are not adequately equipped to prepare meals.

The agreement states that selected school cafeterias will provide breakfast, lunch and an evening snack for the Church Street, Holy Rosary, Schriever and the Senator Circle Head Start centers.

Harding said the total price of all meals should not exceed $5.55 per day, per child. Breakfast costs $1.65. Lunch is $3.15 and the evening snack is 75 cents.

The food served will conform to the minimum standard for meals from the U.S. Department of Education food program guidelines. Menus will be supplied to the Head Start sites.
