T’bonne voters OK charter amendments

All eight Terrebonne Parish charter amendments passed handily Tuesday, with no proposition receiving lower than 59 percent approval from voters parishwide. The amendments dealt largely with technical changes to the parish charter.


• Amendment one making the publication of the Terrebonne Parish Council’s agendas and minutes conform to state law passed with 67 percent of the vote.


• Amendment two allowing the parish to assess developmental impact fees was approved by 59 percent of voters.

• Amendment three lengthening the amount of time permitted for parish ordinances to be published from three to five days was approved by 68 percent of voters.


• Amendment four forcing all expenditures of the parish’s bond issues to be included in the parish’s capital budget gained 63 percent voter approval.

• Amendment five increasing the cap on the amount of money the parish can deposit in the parish’s Emergency Fund passed with 62 percent of the vote.

• Amendment six dealing with the charter’s initiative and referendum provision was approved by 65 percent of voters.

• Amendment seven eliminating the provision in the parish charter requiring 25 percent of the registered voters in an elected official’s area to begin the recall process was approved by 69 percent.

• Amendment eight changing the date elected parish officials take office to the Thursday following the first Monday in January after their election was approved by 70 percent of voters.
