Final arrangements for Terrebonne Parish Assessor Gene Bonvillain, 66, have been set with visitation scheduled for Thursday between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. at Chauvin Funeral Home in Houma.

Funeral mass will be conducted at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church on Friday at 9 a.m., with burial following at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Cemetery.

Bonvillain had worked in the Terrebonne Parish Assessor’s Office for 40 years and held the top position there during the past 16 years. He had planned to retire from the position at the completion of his term in 2012. Bonvillain had been battling illness during the past several months.

Bonvillain is survived by this wife, Darlene Callais Bonvillain; children, Donavon Bonvillain, Stephanie Bonvillain Austin (Troy Austin), Dominique Bonvillain (Neil Kelly), three grandchildren and a host of family, friends and associates.

“I’ve known Gene Bonvillain for many years,” Terrebonne Parish President Michel Claudet said on Monday. “He has been a great public servant for Terrebonne Parish. It is with great sorrow that we note his passing he will be missed by the Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government.”
