Voters in Terrebonne Parish will be able to hear the candidates for Terrebonne Parish president and sheriff speak at two different forums, both held at the Bayou Jaguars Supporters, Inc. Center, 3213 W. Main St. in Gray.

Candidates for Terrebonne Parish president Barry Bonvillain, Michel Claudet, Mike Fesi, Eulin Guidry and Jerry Larpenter will speak on Tuesday, Sept. 25, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Terrebonne sheriff candidates Vernon Bourgeois, Orville Callahan, William Torres Jr. and Godfrey Buqeut will talk on Thursday, Sept. 27, also beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The forums are sponsored by the Louisiana Institute for Citizens Empowerment and the Gray Improvement Committee, Inc.

All candidates will have been given the opening discussion question beforehand. Subsequent questions will be unknown to the candidates prior to the event.

The forum for parish president will cover issues especially pertinent to northern Terrebonne. Topics should include affordable housing, annual budget allocations, road maintenance, drainage, economic development, public health, cultural enhancements, playgrounds, wastewater treatment, and judicial districts.

Candidates for sheriff will discuss crime-such as drug trafficking- and interdiction plans, public health, traffic safety, police substations and community policing.

The forums’ moderator will be Clarence Williams, an executive with Direct Workforce, Inc.

Former Terrebonne Parish Councilman Wayne Thibodaux created the Louisiana Institute for Citizens Empowerment when he joined the council in 1996.

The Gray Improvement Committee is a community development organization.

The Bayou Jaguars Supporters are affiliated with Southern University.
