The following in a rundown of action taken by the Terrebonne Parish School Board at its regularly schedule meeting Tuesday, March 20. Three board members were absent: District 1 member Roosevelt Thomas, District 2 member Gregory Harding and District 7 representative Roger Dale DeHart. All votes were unanimous unless otherwise noted.


• Approved securing elevation certificates for potentially flood-prone facilities as well as quotes for flood insurance, and report findings back to the Finance, Insurance and Section 16 Lands committee.


• By a 5-1 vote, the board agreed to reschedule the agenda deadline for the April 17 meeting because of the Easter holiday, from noon on Wednesday, April 11, to noon on Wednesday, April 4. District 8 representative Don Duplantis cast the lone “no” vote.

• Approved advertising for a Request for Proposal relative to Student Accident Insurance.


• Approved a request for Tanaka Lee, special education inclusion teacher at West Park Elementary School, to attend the 2007 Joint Conference for Alternative Routes in Washington, D.C.

• Approved a request for Travis Bourg, technical support specialist in the Central Office, to attend the 2007 Linux Summit in San Diego, Calif.

• Approved a request for Paula White, special education autism specialist in the Special Education Department, to attend the 2007 Summer Institute in Gautier, Miss.

• Approved a professional sabbatical leave for Mia Martinez, teacher at Honduras Elementary School, for the 2007-2008 school year.

• Approved a medical sabbatical leave for Sheila Moore, teacher at Houma Junior High School, for 2007-2008 school year.
