All employees at 17 Terrebonne Parish public schools will receive bonuses as a reward for students’ rising test scores.

Teachers and other “instructional personnel” who worked at the schools during 2009-10 will get $3,000. Support staff, such as custodians and cafeteria workers, will get $600. The School Board approved the bonuses last Tuesday.

Officials say the bonuses are being given because the schools’ test scores improved and met state-set targets. The elementary schools are Bourg, Broadmoor, Dularge, East Houma, Gibson, Honduras, Montegut, Mulberry, Upper Little Caillou, Village East and West Park. The middle schools include Caldwell, Dularge, Grand Caillou and Greenwood. The high schools are South Terrebonne and Terrebonne.

Assistant Superintendent Carol Davis says the bonuses will cost about $1.7 million. Payments are expected to go out in November.
