Voters in Montegut will cast ballots on a recreation district property tax proposition and bond proposal, and a fire-protection property tax in the Oct. 20 elections.

Recreation District No. 6 in Terrebonne Parish is seeking a two-mill increase on the annual eight-mill property tax it currently levies.

The eight-mill property tax was authorized at a special election in 2004.

The tax will bring in $312,000 yearly, and will pay for maintaining and improving recreational facilities in the district.

In addition, residents will vote on a $1.4 million bond proposal for operating and acquiring recreational facilities in the district.

For the fire-protection levy, voters in Fire Protection District No. 6 in Terrebonne and Lafourche parishes will cast ballots on an annual 16-mill property tax to fund the fire station in Montegut and emergency medical facilities.

The tax is expected to take in $465,000 yearly to operate the emergency facilities.

The money will help purchase trucks and equipment and pay for water for firefighting.

Polling places for all three proposals are located at the Montegut Fire Station (1105 Hwy. 55), and KC Home Council No. 8616 (1558 Hwy. 665 in Montegut).

For the fire-protection tax, eligible voters in Lafourche Parish will vote at the Peter Dupre Rainbow Inn (435 Louisiana Highway 665 in Montegut).

Only voters in Ward 6 can cast ballots on the propositions.

The returns from voting on the proposals will be canvassed on Tuesday, Nov. 6, at the Montegut Recreation Gym, 105 Recreation Dr.
