A Thibodaux Police officer has been charged with raping a Nicholls State student, according to Campus Police.

Deputy Corey Morris, 35, of 805 Lafourche St., Thibodaux is charged with simple rape after allegedly raping a 22-year old Nicholls student after providing her a ride home from a bar early Friday morning.

University Police say they witnessed a Thibodaux patrol car around 1:15 a.m. early Friday outside an apartment complex on Bowie Road. The report states the lights on the vehicle were on at the time.

Upon calling the Thibodaux Police and discovering a report had not been filed on campus to that location, University Police Sgt. Michael Richard said he went to the location and saw Morris walking from the apartments to the car.

Upon investigating what took place inside the apartment, Richard said Morris told him he had sex with the student, but she gave verbal consent.

But the campus police questioned the victim and say she was in a “semi-conscious” state at the time of her encounter with Morris, deeming her unable to resist the officer, whom she allegedly said she never met prior to that night.

Morris is being charged with one count of simple rape. He was originally held on $50,000 bond, but has since posted bail.

The maximum penalty if convicted is 25 years in prison.

The identity of the victim has not been released.
