A 76-year-old Thibodaux woman was critically injured Sunday when she was struck by a single vehicle near West Main St. in Terrebonne Parish.

According to a State Police Troop C spokesman, the incident occurred at approximately 6:45 p.m. Kathleen Babin was crossing the south lane of La. 24 near Martin Luther King Boulevard in Houma when she was struck by a Jeep driven by Steven Eastwood, 25, of Houma.

Trooper First Class Rodney Hyatt said Babin sustained what appeared to be critical injuries. Eastwood, who was the only occupant in the Jeep, was not hurt, the trooper said.

Acadian Ambulance Service transported Babin to Terrebonne General Medical Center for treatment.

Hyatt said alcohol or drug use are not suspected to be factors in the incident. He said Eastwood consented to a voluntary breath test; the results of the test were .000 grams percent. No charges are pending, Hyatt said.
