The 52nd Teenager of the Year award winner for Terrebonne will be announced Friday, Jan. 16, at the Lenox Hotard Post 13 on Legion Avenue in Houma.


Twenty-four high school students have been nominate to vie for the honor. Legionnaire L.P. Bordelon said a committee of commanders and past commanders from Terrebonne’s four American Legion posts choose the Teenager of the Year.

The program began in 1957. Leo Hebert Jr. was the first recipient. Vandebilt Catholic School graduate Charles Gyer and South Terrebonne High School graduate Brittany Rogers shared the award last year.


Nominees have to be at least 15-19 years old, and have lived in the parish for at least one year. Student nominations are submitted by their respective schools to certify academic, social and community achievements.

The banquet dinner begins next Friday at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15, and can be purchased by calling William “Bill” Davis, (985) 872-6432, or Ellis Leonard, (985) 879-1626.

District Judge David Arceneaux and representatives from Houma-Terrebonne Chamber of Commerce, South Central Industrial Association, the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, and the parish government and school board will be among the featured speakers at the event.
