Earlier today, Parish President Gordon E. Dove and Parish President Elect Jason Bergeron hosted a ribbon cutting to celebrate the purchase of the Hancock Whitney building at 7910 W Main Street in downtown Houma, which will be utilized by various different local organizations, businesses, and educators in the near future.

“I want to thank each and every one of you for coming to celebrate this great day for Houma,” said Parish President Dove. “We have been doing a lot for the parish and we keep growing. The people of Terrebonne have endured a lot of heartaches, but they are resilient and stronger than ever.”

The Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government recently purchased the Whitney Bank Building to serve as a hub of business downtown, which consists of 97,901 square feet ($30.65 per square foot), with an expected net savings/income of $626,819 annually. Local agencies which have expressed their interest in space in the building include Fletcher Technical Community College (as a business incubator/lecture space), the Bayou Regional Arts Council, the Terrebonne Parish District Attorney’s Office, the Terrebonne Parish Public Works Administration and Engineering, the Terrebonne Parish Housing and Human Services, the Houma Police Department, the LSU Ag Center, and the Veterans Affair Office.

“This is a momentous occasion, and so I want to thank the administration and the council for making this happen and keeping us moving forward,” said Jason Bergeron, Parish President Elect. “This is a piece in the puzzle of our recovery from Ida, and shows that we are making progress and we are coming back. I’m excited about this opportunity and everything we can do to revitalize Terrebonne Parish and revitalize downtown.”
