The Terrebonne Parish School Board unanimously approved waiving the usage fees for E.D. White’s basketball teams to practice and play games at H.L. Bourgeois gymnasium at last Tuesday’s meeting.

The board waived the $150 per day usage fee for January and February 2009. E.D. White would still have to pay custodial fees, which cost about $20 per hour, according Ira Davis, supervisor of maintenance for the school system.

E.D. White has three varsity and two junior varsity games scheduled to be played at Bourgeois’ gym.

“Anytime anybody helps us this year, we really appreciate it,” said E.D. White athletic director Preston LeJuene. “And like I told the board, if something ever happened in Terrebonne Parish they needed a gym, we would allow them to use our gym at no charge.”

During Hurricane Gustav, the E.D. White’s gym roof suffered heavy damages. Water seeped in, making the floors buckle and walls to mold.

Including the JV teams, the Cardinals will use eight different facilities for home games, said LeJuene.

If the Cardinals make a playoff game, it may be scheduled at Bourgeois, depending on availability of other facilities.
