A two-vehicle accident Sept. 6 claimed the life of a Larose woman after her vehicle was rear-ended on La. Highway 3235, just north of Golden Meadow.

“We have worked 11 fatality crashes in Lafourche Parish with 12 deaths to date,” said Louisiana State Police Troop C spokesman Evan Harrell.

Nancy Danos, 62, of Larose, was transported to Lady of the Sea Hospital and then to Oschner Hospital in New Orleans, where she later died.

Sometime after 10 a.m., Danos’s northbound 1993 Chevrolet Silverado was struck from behind by a northbound 2004 Silverado driven by Jason Smith, 36, of Leesville as Danos slowed to make a right turn onto West 23rd Street.

Danos’s vehicle was pushed forward about 50 to 75 yards until it struck a utility pole on the east side of the roadway. Danos and her 15-year-old passenger were both wearing their seat belts and the 15-year old, who received minor injuries, was also transported to Lady of the Sea Hospital. Smith was wearing a seat belt and was not injured in the crash.

Officers from LSP Troop C and Lafourche Fire District 3 worked the accident. State troopers investigating the crash do not think alcohol was a factor, and Smith, who agreed to a breath test, was cleared of any alcohol involvement. Smith was later charged with careless operation.
