A one-vehicle accident early last Tuesday morning claimed the life of a Houma man and sent another to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Dustin Prince, 24, of Houma, was traveling westbound on Southdown Mandalay Road in a 1995 Honda Accord when for unknown reasons, the vehicle ran off the road to the left in a straightaway and struck an embankment

After striking the embankment, the vehicle overturned and struck a utility pole before coming to a complete stop. Prince, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was later pronounced dead by the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office, and his passenger, Joseph Folse, 21, of Houma, who was seriously injured, was transported to Terrebonne General Medical Center.

The accident was worked by Louisiana State Police Troop C, and officers investigating the scene suspect that speed may have been a cause of the crash. The crash is still under investigation and it is not know at this time if alcohol use contributed to the crash. Toxicology tests are pending.

According to Louisiana State University Data Reports, there have been 10 fatal traffic accidents in Terrebonne Parish this year, not including this recent crash.
