An illegal U-turn ended with a Houma woman’s arrest on drug charges early last Wednesday.

Houma Police patrolling Main Street saw a red Honda Civic make an illegal left turn onto New Orleans Boulevard at 1:07 a.m., according to department spokesman Lt. Todd Duplantis.

Police stopped the car near Gum Street. The driver, Scott Cadiere, 18, of Houma, told officers that he thought it was legal to make the left turn.

As officers spoke to Cadiere, they spotted a marijuana pipe, and detected a slight odor of marijuana coming from the car, Duplantis said.

Cadiere’s passenger, Jade Cuneo, 17, of 155 McCollum Court, Houma, had .2 grams of suspected marijuana in her cell phone pouch, which officers seized, the spokesman said.

Cadiere was issued a traffic citation making an illegal left turn at an intersection and Ms. Cuneo was issued a summons for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

If convicted, Cuneo faces a maximum penalty of 10 years and a fine of $5,000.
