This weekend, two local educators in Lafourche Parish were presented awards from the Louisiana Music Educators Association for having left an impact on students through music!

Michelle Chiasson, Principal at E.D. White Catholic High School in Thibodaux, was one of four awarded the Tom D. Wafer Outstanding Administrator Award. The purpose of the award, as stated on the LMEA website, is “to recognize outstanding school principals, assistant principals, superintendents, and/or assistant or associate superintendents who demonstrate support for and commitment to high-quality arts education programs in their schools. The influence of such administrators is a major factor in improving music education in school systems across the state.”

Also representing Lafourche Parish, Willie Martin, Band Director at Central Lafourche High School in Raceland, was one of two awarded the LMEA Standard of Excellence Award. This award recognizes the results of quality teaching and superior performances in Louisiana high school and middle school instrumental music programs. The LMEA Instrumental Standard of Excellence Award was adopted October, 2019.

Congratulations to Chiasson and Martin for their outstanding contributions to musical education in Lafourche Parish!
