A 17-year-old Vandebilt High School senior has been selected as the 60th Teenager of the Year by a group of American Legion posts, and will have the opportunity to serve as an intern at the offices of the Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government.

William Laughlin Grace V, of Houma, was one of 27 teens nominated by their respective high school principals, whose qualifications, biographies and resumes were evaluated by a committee of past and present American Legion post commanders. In addition to Post 31, Posts 272 in Montegut and 380 in Chauvin participated.

Slated to play The Wolf in this year’s Vandebilt production of “Into The Woods,” Grace intoned a line from the show “wishes come true not free,” when accepting his award Saturday night at American Legion Post 31.

Nicholls State University President Bruce Murphy was the keynote speaker, which was attended by the nominees and their parents. The award was presented by Murphy and Lenox Hotard Post 31 Commander Kayla Duthu. •
