Heavy Rainfall and Severe Weather Update – Nov. 29, 2023
Here is an update from the National Weather Service in New Orleans concerning the heavy rainfall threat Thursday and Friday along with the severe weather threat Friday.
Overview:
WHAT: MARGINAL RISK of excessive rainfall and Severe Weather
WHEN: For the excessive rainfall Thursday and Friday and the severe weather risk Friday.
WHERE: All of Southeast LA and Southern MS.
CONFIDENCE: High confidence that widespread moderate to heavy rainfall will move through the area Thursday and Friday but there is low confidence that this will cause major flooding impacts. There is low confidence in severe storms Friday.
Impacts:
The main threats associated with any severe storms will be:
• Wind gusts greater than 60 mph
• A few tornadoes.
• Large hail.
• Rainfall totals of 2 to 3 inches is forecast with locally higher amounts possible starting Thursday through the weekend. This rainfall could lead to ponding of water in low lying areas and areas of poor drainage.
