Alex Louis “Coup” Coupel, 85, a native of Napoleonville, LA. and resident of Amelia, LA., died at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 8, 2007.

Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to funeral time today at St. Anne Catholic Church in Napoleonville. Mass will be at 11 a.m. today at the church, with burial in the church cemetery.


He is survived by his wife, Louise Aucoin Barras Coupel of Amelia; two sons, Alex J. “A.J.” Coupel and wife, Trudy, of Napoleonville, and Edras J. “E.J.” Coupel and wife, Lisa, of Napoleonville; one stepson, Dewey Barras and wife, Juaneta, of Labadieville, LA.; three daughters, Mary Boudreaux and husband, Ulysse, Phyllis Chiasson and husband, John, and Catherine M. Coupel, all of Thibodaux; four stepdaughters, Betty Willoughby and husband, Dewight, of Panama City, Fla., Emma Jana Bedfard and husband, Bill, Vicky Johnson of Nikski, Alaska, and JoAnn Zeringue of Saldotna, Alaska; two brothers, Howard Coupel of Raceland, LA. and Allen Raymond Coupel of Houma; one sister, Mildred Coupel Hebert of Labadieville; eight grandchildren; 14 step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and 18 step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marie Acosta Coupel; his parents, Joseph Coupel and Roselie Sauce; and three brothers, Harry Coupel, Douglas Coupel and Clifton Coupel.

He served in the U.S. Army and was retired from McDermott as an electrician for 33 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 284 Association and a member of the Golden Age Club of Morgan City.

Landry’s Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
