Alice Marie Rivero LeBlanc, 79, a native of Thibodaux, La., died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011 of complications related to Parkinson’s disease.


Mrs. LeBlanc is remembered as a loving mother and wife, a cherished sister, a good friend, a teacher and a devout Catholic. She taught her daughters many wonderful lessons about life that will be passed on to their children, their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The daughters are forever grateful for being blessed with a strong mother and great influence in their lives. She was born in Napoleonville on Oct. 19, 1931 to Clemere Rivero and Medora Simoneaux Rivero. She was raised with four sisters and five brothers. She married Xavier Jay LeBlanc of Chacahoula on April 19, 1950 and they enjoyed their life together for 44 years until his death on March 31, 1994. One of her many accomplishments include a 20 plus year career as a teacher for students with special needs. She was a very gifted educator and loved her students. The school was located at Nicholls State University. She was instrumental in giving life to the program at Nicholls State University and delivering the message to the community about the special needs children.


She is survived by her daughters, Patricia Daigle, Rebecca (Dr. Vance) Renshaw, Jody LeBlanc, Lisa (Rick) Rosenberg and Sybil Maddocks; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren with another on the way.

She was preceded in death by her siblings, Diane Rivero Pontiff, Lucy Dufrene, Doyce Landry, Marie Foret, and Donald, Ronald, Jimmy, Leonard and CJ Rivero.

She is buried at St. Joseph Cemetery. (Thibodaux)
