Alice Pontif Guidry, 86, a resident of Terrebonne Parish, La., died Tuesday, June 17, 2014.
Mrs. Guidry was employed as a bookkeeper for Houma Auto Parts from 1943 to 1952 and Houma Oil Company for 33 years. She was elected “Woman of the Year” in 1962 and served as the first chairman of Vandebilt Catholic High School’s Annual Fair. She worked with the American Heart Association and annual Leukemia Society Drive and was a member of the Anawim Community and Catholic Daughters. She was a gentle soul who will be lovingly missed.
She is survived by her son, Jimmie Jr. (Marcie) Guidry; sister, Vivian Cancienne; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie Guidry Sr.; parents, Oliver Sr. and Juliette Pontif; sisters, Hazel Chartier and Agnes Vice; and brothers, Oliver Jr., John, Robert, Jackie, Ned and George Pontif.
Burial is at Terrebonne Memorial Park Cemetery. (Chauvin)
