Alma Owens Douglas, 69, a native and resident of Thibodaux, La., died Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011.


Ms. Douglas was a former assistant warden and the first female employee at the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office Detention Center in Thibodaux.


She is survived by her daughters, Tessie (Corey) Johnson and Taira (Toranza) Every; sisters, Vera (Alton) Oliver and Carolyn (Donald) Owens; brother, Millage Owens; two grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elvina Shanklin and Henry Owens Sr.; brothers, Lionel, Billy, Jimmie, Morrell, Henry and Steve Owens; and sisters, Dorothy Mae, Velma Owens and Catherine Gramma.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 4, at Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church in Thibodaux with services to follow. Burial will be at the church cemetery. (Williams & Southall)
