Amy Theresa Giroir Rhodes, 91, a native and longtime resident of Morgan City, La., until her relocation to Houma, La., to be near her son, died Sunday, January 18.


She is survived by one son, George W. Shely and wife Jackie of Houma; four grandchildren, Katherine Shely Torbert and husband Mark of Houma, Amy Shely Sissac and husband Scott of Houma, Jolane Powell Diaz and husband Gilbert of Mobile, Al., and Timothy Powell of Morgan City; six great-grandchildren, Emily Theresa Diaz, Zachary Gilbert Diaz, Lily Anne Torbert, Zoe Elizabeth Sissac, Matthew Powell and Jessica Marie Powell; two sisters, Doris G. Harrington and Eula Mae Turner; and one brother, Billy Giroir.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Solar and Ulysses Joseph Giroir; her husband, Jim William Shely; two daughters, Jacqueline Ann Shely and Ruby Ann Shely Powell; two brothers, Joseph Giroir and Edward Giroir; and five sisters, Edith LeBouef, Edna Gussman, Annette G. Crouch, Enola G. Breaux and Agnes “Lee Lee” G. Topham.

She was buried at Morgan City Cemetery.
