Lenten Gumbo served for 20 years, still going strong

Betty Marie Champagne Bonvillain, 81, a native of Bourg, La., and a resident of Houma, La., died at 5:25 p.m. Thursday, March 11, 2010.
Mrs. Bonvillain enjoyed bowling, gardening, cooking and baking. She loved traveling, going to casinos and babysitting, which she did over the last 30 years.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Alvin Bonvillain; daughter, Brenda Bonvillain Migues; brother, Vernon Champagne; two granddaughters, Dawn Marie Gilcrease and Wendy Yvonne Adams; six great-grandchildren, Emily, Alex and Grace Gilcrease and Kellie Jo, Kami Rae and Jude Adams.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sidney Sr. and Amanda Pitre Champagne; son, Troy James Eaton; brothers, Roy, Roland, Gilford, Sidney Jr. and Raymond Champagne; and sisters, Aurely Solito and Ethel Sutton.
She is buried at St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2.
