Carolyn R. “Mommie” Hawkins, 78, a native of Donaldsonville, La., died Friday, Sept. 4, at her daughter’s residence in Sorrento, La.

She is survived by four daughters, Carol and husband Elvincent Celestin of St. James, La., Monica and husband Larry Johnson Jr. of Plaquemine, La., Glyniss and husband Darrell Desira of Sorrento, and Donice and husband Joseph Plain of Baton Rouge, La.; a niece whom she reared as a daughter, Desiree Domio of Baton Rouge; six sons, Michael and wife Charmaine Williams of Dallas, Texas, Keith and wife Martis Maurice of San Diego, Calif., Glynn Sr. and wife Emelda Williams of Darrow, La., Bruce Lee of Louisville, Ky., Briant Lee Sr. of Donaldsonville and Gary P. Lee of Baton Rouge; one sister, Betty and husband Valery Lowery of Baton Rouge; one uncle, Percy Sims of Donaldsonville; 21 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three step-daughters; two step-sons; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Hawkins; parents, Royal and Freda Domio; one sister, Jackie Bergeron; one brother, James Domio; one granddaughter, Shakira Sylve; one great-granddaughter, A’Kira Celestine; two infant sons; and one infant daughter.

Visitation will be 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at Williams & Southall Funeral Home in Donaldsonville, and 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at First Baptist Church in Smoke Bend, La. Rev. Melvin Williams will conduct a religious service at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Williams & Southall Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
