Celest J. McKenzie, 77, a native of Woodville, Ms., and a resident of Avondale, La., died Wednesday, March 11.


She is survived by her sons, Morris (Gloria), John, Jr., (Erma), Jesse Sr. (Duann), Sam, Isaac Ray, and Charles Sr. (Kim) McKenzie; daughters, Flora Collins, Katie White, Alice Brock, Diane (Devance) Boseman, Yoland (Bryant) Carter, LaShawne (John) Miller, Thelma and Pamela McKenzie; three brothers; four sisters; 27 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her husband, John McKenzie Sr.; parents, Alice J. Hampton and Sam Brack; daughter, Daisy McKenzie; two brothers; two sisters; and grandparent, Easter Stewart.

She was an usher and member of Second Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday, March 21, at New Hope Baptist Church, 1807 LaSalle St., New Orleans, La., with the funeral service to follow. Burial will be at Restlawn Park Cemetery in Avondale.

Rhodes Funeral Home of Gretna, La., is in charge of the arrangements.
