Charles Edmund Portier, 78, a native and resident of Houma, La., died at 11:20 p.m. Sunday, June 8.


He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Sampay Portier of Houma; sons, Charles “Chuck” Portier and wife, Theresa, of Broussard, Blair Portier and wife, Sue, Kent Portier, Ricky Portier, Steven Portier and wife, Kaci, and Kirk Portier and wife, Chrystal; brothers, Phillip Portier of Houma and Daniel Portier of California; sisters, Maybelle Antill of Gibson, La., Marion Wunstell, Betty Anselmi, Margaret Pellegrin and Alice Duplantis of Houma; 16 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonce Portier and Haydee Jarveaux Portier; son, Errol Joseph Portier; and brothers, Leonce “L.J.” Portier Jr., Donald Portier and Fay Portier.

He was self-employed of Charles Motor Service and was a parishioner of Maria Immacolata Catholic Church.

Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, at Chauvin Funeral Home and 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, at Maria Immacolata Catholic Church with mass to follow. He will be buried at St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2.

Chauvin Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
