Charles Joseph Monier Sr., Ph.D., 76, a native of New Orleans, La., and a resident of Thibodaux, La., died Monday, Aug. 17.


He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lora Jane Akers; four sons, Dr. Charles J. Monier and wife Melanie, Michael G. Monier and wife Tami of Thibodaux, Daniel T. Monier and Samuel Greer, of Atlanta, Ga., and Dr. Paul L. Monier and wife Dr. Richelle Monier of New Orleans; two sisters, Janis M. Pecquet of Port Allen, La., and Catherine M. Henry of New Orleans; two maternal aunts, Mary M. Janusa of Slidell, La., and Josie M. Noe of Metairie, La.; nine grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Jacques Monier and Jennie Marrione Monier of New Orleans; two brothers-in-law, Judge Philip N. Pecquet and Russell J. Henry; and one niece, Melissa Henry.


Dr. Monier taught at Nicholls State University for many years. He received a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from LSU, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Mississippi State University. He was a registered professional mechanical and electrical engineer and a licensed land surveyor. He served as an officer in the United States Air Force.

The family wishes to thank Journey Hospice and Grace, Eleanor, Brenda, Peggy and Antoinette for their loving care.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to masses or a charity of your choice.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, at St. Joseph Co-Cathedral in Thibodaux with mass to follow. Interment will be at the church cemetery.

Landry’s Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
