Clyde Edwin “PaPa Clyde” Newell, 86, a native of Burkburnett, Texas, and a resident of Theriot, La., died Monday, July 6.

He is survived by his two daughters, Mrs. Carolyn Oubre Gale and Mrs. Gail Oubre Viator; two granddaughters, Rebecca Gale and Meredith Gale and husband Brad; three grandsons, Reed Whitney Jr. and wife Sherry, Mark Whitney and wife Stacy, and Dain Whitney and wife Stacy; and eight great-grandchildren, Brianna, Chandler, Hanna, Alexis, Leighton, Addison, Megan and Dexter.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine Broussard Newell; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Elmer Newell; one son, Eddie Newell; and one son-in-law, John Gale.

He enjoyed reading, model railroading and anything related to trains. He was a veteran having served his country as a Marine in both World War II and the Korean War. He was an active supporter of various veteran organizations.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, July 11, at Samart Funeral Home in Houma, La. A graveside service will follow at 5 p.m. at St. Joseph Church Cemetery in Loreauville, La.
