Daniel “Poppie” Smith Sr., 84, a native of Houma, La., and resident of Montegut, La., died Friday, Aug. 13, 2010.
Mr. Smith served in the U. S. Army during World War II. He was a member at Mt. Olive Baptist Church and The Stone Square Lodge and was a retired construction worker for Boh Bros of New Orleans, La. He enjoyed reading the Bible and watching baseball.
He is survived by his son, Daniel Smith Jr.; daughters, Earenstine S. Redmond and Riva Lee (Jimmie) Ross; sisters, Carrie (Isaac Sr.) McKay and Ora Mae (Kerri Lee) Bradley; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Augustine Redmond Smith; parents, Isiah and Paige V. Smith; two brothers, Gaston and Amos Sr. Smith; and seven sisters: Albertha S. Alridge, Maime S. Williams, Viola, Saadi, Elnora and Josephine Smith and Della Lewis.
He is buried at Bisland Cemetery.
