Derek John LeBlanc, 29, a native of Chauvin, La., and a resident of Metairie, La., died Saturday, July 4.


He is survived by his loving fiance, Erin Gates of Metairie; mother, Elene Robichaux Matherne and step-father Shane Matherne; father, Danny J. LeBlanc; two brothers, Ryan LeBlanc and Greg LeBlanc and wife Erin; one step-brother, Shawn Matherne; one niece, Jeanna LeBlanc; two nephews, Caleb and Luke LeBlanc; grandparents, Julius “Nu-nu” and Maria Robichaux, and Joyce and LeRoy DeHart; godmother, Sylvia Arceneaux; godfather, Randy LeBlanc; numerous aunts and uncles; and his dog Neeco.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Leroy LeBlanc; and one uncle, Julius Robichaux Jr.


He loved animals, the outdoors and spending time with his fiance doing simple thing like picnics, going to the zoo, talking and enjoying his freedom. He looked forward to one day making a little garden like his Papa Nunu and old Papa Norris did. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was looking forward to buying a ring, marrying Erin and having a family.

In lieu of flowers donations are requested to help with funeral expenses.

Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, July 9, at Samart Funeral Home in Houma, La., and 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Friday, July 10, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Chauvin. Mass will be 12 p.m. Friday at the church with burial at the church cemetery.

Samart Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
