Dewey Wilson, 85, a resident of Patterson, La., died Monday, March 18, 2013.


Mr. Wilson was a U.S. Merchant Marine veteran of World War II and a U.S. Army paratrooper in the 1950’s. He worked at Tidewater and Seahorse for 22 years delivering boats internationally. He was a contractor for the U.S. Navy and an expert witness for the U.S. Maritime Law Department. He was a member of the U.S. Naval Institute, a Master Mason in the Grand Lodge of Louisiana and an instructor at Young Memorial Technical College. Before his retirement from Young Memorial he received the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Louisiana Technical College System.


He is survived by his wife, Melba Wilson; daughters, Lissa Wilson and Lesli Fridge; sister, Genoria Staples; brothers, Jimmy and Lyman Wilson; and two granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey Sr. and Lissa Wilson; brother, Tommy Wilson; and sisters, Betty Distefeno and Dorothy Knudson.

Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, at Ibert’s Funeral Home in Patterson and 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, March 21, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Patterson with services to follow. Burial will be at the church cemetery. (Ibert’s)
