Elmer James Lirette, 81, a native of Terrebonne Parish and a resident of Houma, La., died at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010.


Mr. Lirette was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He retired from Texaco after 33 years’ service as a welder and compressor mechanic. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during World War II.


He is survived by his wife, Earline Pinell Lirette; stepchildren, Bud Caro and Irma Pitre; grandchildren, Chance, Ryan and Kevin Caro, Tara Pitre and Dustin Lirette; brothers, Curtis and Donald Lirette; sisters, Barbara (Leroy) Price and Earnestine (Andrew) Pitre; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde J. and Elizabeth Ellender Lirette; sons, Robert J. and Kevin J. Lirette; and sister, Gloria Henry.

He is buried at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Cemetery.
