Mr. Bailey proudly served his country, his community and his family for 86 years. Upon returning safely home from a 33 month tour of duty in the South Pacific during World War II, he began operating T-Man’s Grocery and Bar on the banks of his beloved Four Mile Bayou in 1945. He worked alongside his devoted wife, Selma, for nearly 60 years in the family business, serving and entertaining customers, hunters, fishermen, vacationers and generations of local families enjoying the beauty of southern Louisiana. T-Man worked until ill health prevented him from doing so several years ago. His contributions to the community of Four Mile Bayou are numerous and include providing school transportation via “The School Boat” so that local children could be afforded an education.

He was a member of St. Martin Parish School Board during which he was instrumental in the conception, planning, and construction of Stephensville Elementary School in 1972. Additionally, he served on St. Martin Parish Water and Sewer Board since 1980, later retiring as president in 2005. He proudly served as a member of both the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
